Embarking on my next adventure, I set my sights on the enchanting city of Prague in the Czech Republic. From the moment I arrived and checked into the historic Hotel Chopin in Old Town, I knew I was in for a treat. Shortly after arrival, a chance encounter with a local journalist named Marketa would transform my visit into an unforgettable journey filled with hidden treasures, historical landmarks, and the vibrant energy of this remarkable city. When Marketa realized I had just arrived and had been travelling all over, she was excited to act as my tour guide. We agreed to meet again the next day to begin her heart-felt tour.
Our adventure started in Wenceslas Square, the heart of New Town, before we crossed the Vltava River and entered the enchanting realm of Old Town. Walking through the mysterious Jewish Ghetto and the Lesser Quarter, I was captivated by the rich history and architectural marvels that adorned every corner.
Climbing up Petrin Hill and passing the bench where “Jason Bourne” woke up in The Bourne Identity, we reached the majestic Prague Castle. From the top of the Petrin Tower, an awe-inspiring view of the city unfolded before us, an amazing view of the beautiful city.
Back down from the tower, we took the old castle stairs, the same stairs that Tom Cruise rode down in the motorcycle scene from Mission Impossible and we arrived in the Old Town square just in time to watch the astronomical clock strike.
One of the highlights of my journey was delving beneath the streets of Prague, where hidden treasures from centuries past lay waiting to be discovered. With Marketa’s guidance, I had the opportunity to explore underground passages dating back to the 12th century. These secret corridors and rooms once hosted gatherings of the Knights Templar, witnessed medieval alchemy, and served as meeting places for secret societies. By immersing myself in these underground spaces, I experienced the city’s hidden history and felt a connection to the generations that came before me.
With Marketa as my guide, I ventured into tucked-away establishments that only the locals knew about. These hidden gems offered authentic dining experiences with menus devoid of English translations. The atmosphere buzzed with the vibrant energy of Prague’s residents, allowing me to immerse myself in the city’s culture and traditions. These off-the-beaten-path encounters added a layer of authenticity to my journey, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
As dusk settled in, Marketa and I made our way to the iconic Charles Bridge, where the city’s splendor truly came alive under the night sky. With the illuminated waterfront serving as a backdrop, we marveled at the beauty that surrounded us, soaking in the timeless charm of Prague.
At nights end, we visited the Charles Bridge and allowed the spectacular waterfront panorama to reveal its splendor. Prague is a beautiful city bursting with old history and new energy.
