Some travel days you remember forever — and this recent journey from the countryside charm of Ubon Ratchathani to the bustling, magical energy of Bangkok turned into one of those unforgettable adventures.

We started off in Ubon, soaking up the peaceful beauty of life outside the city. Together, we wandered through rubber tree farms and visited cozy country homes, getting a real feel for the slower, sweeter side of Thai life. Back in town, we explored Ubon’s lively shops, sampled delicious local dishes at cute restaurants, and enjoyed every bit of the city’s friendly, laid-back vibe. But as much as we loved Ubon’s easygoing pace, Bangkok was calling — and we were ready for a whole new kind of excitement.

After a quick trip south, we found ourselves boarding a glittering boat for a dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya River—and wow, what an entrance into the big city!

From the moment we stepped on deck, everything felt straight out of a dream. The boat sparkled with lights, a cool breeze danced across the water, and Bangkok’s iconic skyline slowly came alive around us. We sailed past golden temples and the towering Grand Palace, all shimmering against the night sky.

The buffet was an absolute feast—an array of Thai curries, fresh seafood, tropical fruits—and with every delicious bite, the view only got better. After dinner, the music kicked off and soon everyone, including us, was dancing under the stars. At one point, we even witnessed a surprise marriage proposal, and the whole boat erupted in cheers! Full, happy, and a little bit starry-eyed, we cruised back to the pier already planning our next adventure.

The next afternoon, we traded river views for a sweet surprise: discovering Kakigori at Oyatsu, a cozy Japanese dessert shop tucked away in the city.

We had heard whispers about this legendary shaved ice treat, but nothing prepared us for how magical it would be. We ordered a passionfruit Kakigori topped with sweet fruit and a silky drizzle of condensed milk. When it arrived, it looked almost too perfect to eat—a towering, fluffy mountain of snow-like ice. The first spoonful melted instantly, a burst of coolness followed by the richness of passionfruit and creamy sweetness. Every bite was like tasting a little piece of summer. Safe to say, we were completely hooked by the time we finished.

Later, looking for a little greenery in the middle of the city, we headed over to Lumphini Park—and Bangkok had yet another surprise in store for us.  Wandering around the shady lakes and jogging paths, we spotted something enormous moving near the water’s edge: a giant monitor lizard!

These incredible creatures, some nearly six feet long, roam freely around the park, sunbathing on the banks or gliding through the lakes like modern-day dinosaurs. Seeing them up close, with Bangkok’s skyscrapers towering in the background, was both surreal and totally thrilling. We kept a respectful distance (and our cameras ready!), but we couldn’t get enough of these gentle giants.

No trip to Bangkok would be complete without a little shopping, and we went big with a visit to IconSiam, the city’s most jaw-dropping mall perched right on the Chao Phraya River. Walking inside felt like entering a palace. Soaring ceilings, shimmering art installations, and endless rows of high-end boutiques surrounded us—but it was the food scene that stole our hearts.

On the ground floor, we found a floating market inside the mall, complete with wooden boats and delicious Thai street food. Upstairs, chic cafes and river-view terraces tempted us to stay longer. After a few hours of shopping and snacking, we capped off the visit with the dazzling indoor waterfall show—a true Bangkok spectacle.

And just when we thought our taste buds couldn’t be more spoiled, we found ourselves at Mil Toast House, a famous Korean-style café known for its over-the-top toasts. In addition to grilled SPAM, we shared their incredible Soufflé French Toast with Strawberry Cheesecake—grilled with butter, drizzled with syrup, and practically floating off the plate. Paired with creamy almond mocha cream coffees, it was the perfect, indulgent ending to a day of adventure.

From farm fields to floating palaces, giant lizards to magical desserts, this trip reminded us why we love exploring so much. Every moment was a new discovery, a fresh reason to fall in love with Thailand all over again.

If you’re planning your own trip, make sure you leave space for surprises—because in Thailand, the best adventures often find you. 🌟
